What does your dog want for Christmas?

dogs - Spratt reading

Jack Spratt has made his Christmas list and is on a countdown for his presents to arrive.   What has he asked Santa to bring him?   Food, food and more food.   That doesn’t mean factory made biscuits and cans though, Spratt likes proper food – real meat, some corned beef, a nice piece of fish, a slice of turkey, a yorkshire pudding or two,  a juicy bone – these are all the things that make him lick his lips.

Christmas doesn’t have any meaning for animals except they know that we’re having a special time and they can sense this.   Most people like to give their pets a present and for them to join in the fun though.  The most important thing is to get them something they really like, not what we like!   So despite all the advertising and hype, we think that gadgets and gizmos are out.

Our favourite doggy presents are something special to eat, followed by a comfy dog bed and maybe  a new warm coat, an off lead walk through the woods and that’s about it.  Toys can easily be homemade, dogs have managed without gadgets for thousands of years – these expensive trinkets are usually made of plastic, come from the other side of the world and literally cost the earth.  Polluting the planet to make dog amusements is bizarre and not to be condoned.   Spratt’s best present list this year is :

1.  Turkey, chicken or any real meat

2.  A walk up the fields

3.  A comfy duvet and lots of cushions and pillows

4.  A fleece jumper and a warm dog coat

5.  Lots of hugs, praise and cuddles,

and that’s it folks, Merry Christmas.
