Dogs have no interest in celebrating Christmas, whilst most humans use it as an excuse to go shopping. Newspaper reports put the amount we’ve spent in the U.K. this Christmas at just under 4 billion pounds. A staggering amount gone on too much food, gifts and so-called bargains. Does it matter though? Isn’t it nice to give presents? If they’ve been mass produced in factories and transported from the other side of the world there is a high cost in environmental damage. Consumerism is destroying our beautiful planet.
Dogs, on the other hand, don’t spend anything and, like other animals, don’t naturally have any detrimental environmental impact. If we’d let them, they would survive well without ruining the air we breathe, the forests and the seas. They’ve managed without ‘superstores’ for thousands of years. Time for some New Year resolutions – a simpler life for our pets?
