It was great to see so many people braving the weather and coming to see us yesterday. We had the heating turned up so it was nice and cosy and the animals, birds especially, were on fine form and pleased to meet their visitors. The ‘star’ of the show was Ricky the Rook, who is grown up now. He was brought in to us earlier in the year as an abandoned fledgling. Ricky was hopping about a factory car park and unable to fly. We had to hand feed him and could’t persuade him to stay wild. Rooks are inquisitive and intelligent and he bonded with us, now we can’t release him because he won’t go!
Ricky had everyone in stitches with his antics – when he removed Kate’s watch and then dropped it in his water bowl, giving a big Ha! Ha! and a cheeky glance at her, it was just the start. Ricky can open doors, lift latches and fasten them again, throw silver paper balls and do all kinds of tricks. He’s locked us out of his aviary before – and then has to be asked to open the door so we can get back in. He has a great sense of humour. We’ll let you know when it’s our next open day and you’ll be able to say hello again.
Thanks to all those who helped us, it was lovely to see everyone.
