Danniboy has every reason to look pleased – a kind Pet Samaritan supporter brought several bags of horse and pony feed in this week. We were running low and so it came just at the right time – thank you so much.Although the ponies are fat enough in the summer months when the grass is lush, they soon lose weight in winter when the grazing loses its nutrition. They still graze avidly but there is little goodness to be had and even the smallest of our ponies needs extra food.
Earl is now 18months old and has grown his winter coat. He likes a feed each day and this gives us a chance to include his vitamins and minerals. In the wild state the ponies would roam over vast distances and have access to herbs and differing forage. We open our fields up so that they can have as much variety as possible but it’s not the same and our land has been cultivated in the past so supplementation is a necessity. Food quality is just as important for animals as it is for humans!
If you’d like to sponsor one of our horses or ponies please get in touch. Bags of horse food, apples and carrots, bales of hay – we need all of these from now until next Spring.
