Thank you for cat food

Within minutes of this wonderful donation of cat food coming in, two of our long term residents, Bing and Grondhal, were staking their claim!    Thank you so much to whoever brought it in for us, it came at just the right time as we have had so many cats brought in recently.   The reasons have been various, illness, bereavement and cats being abandoned.   If you have a stray cat hanging around please feed him or her and we will do our best to take the cat when we have room.   Some people are apparently being given the advice ‘don’t feed and it will go away’.   It will eventually, but only to die of starvation .  Cats will find temporary accommodation for themselves in garden sheds and under outhouses and at least they have shelter, but without food it is a desperate time for them.

Our Bing and Grondhal have been with us for many years, they are about twelve years old now and have been here since youngsters.   They were abandoned and living ‘rough’ when someone brought them to us and finer cats would be impossible to know.   They are obviously sisters and very much alike in temperament – deceptively placid and laid back – and at the same time they are fearsome hunters, no rodent has a chance when they are around!    In the summer they go down the fields for long periods and stalk their prey which is what cats used to do.     How did they spot the pet food so quickly?   I don’t know but hope they were available when it came in and gave a proper fussy thank you.

If you bring food in for the animals and we aren’t around Reception please leave us your name and address so we can add you to our ‘friends’ list and keep in touch, and please help yourself to a newsletter while you’re here.   Many, many thanks again – Bing and Grondhal had a pouch straight away!

(Bing and Grondhal?   The name of a Scandinavian pottery company – we thought these two young cats were just like china ornaments when they first came in!)

Did you know that calico cats are said to be bring good fortune?    In China people travel hundreds of miles to see particular calico cats who they believe are lucky.   These tricolour cats are always female and are certainly very striking and beautiful.   Would you like to sponsor Bing and Grondhal and help with their care?    A small monthly donation is a great help – and we’ll make sure these two lovely sister cats send photos and keep in touch with you. If you let us have your name and address we’ll be very happy to send you a standing order form by return.
