Staffi on the sick list

dogs - cindy 5Cindy came in to us recently because of her owner’s serious illness.  Although timid, she has been settling well and is a fussy, sweet little girl – a Staffi x whippet we think.   A couple of days ago she suddenly bit her tail and it began to bleed.  Alright, we’ve known dogs do this before and tails do bleed.  We bathed it, put medication on and bandaged it up.  The next day it was a bloodbath, she had somehow managed to get past her collar, ripped the bandage off and bitten it again, big style this time.  She wouldn’t leave it alone and was intent on biting it again.  The vet came and  told us that an operation would be the only thing to sort it out.  Poor Cindy, she is feeling very sorry for herself.   Why does the tip of her tail suddenly irritate her so much though?

We treated her for fleas and worms as soon as she came in.  Sometimes there is a flea on the tail and this is why dogs bite it.  Not in Cindy’s case though.  She is a obviously distressed by whatever is wrong with her tail but is being brave about having it treated and bandaged.

We’ve been to the vets with her again today, just to have it checked.  She is on antibiotics and her op is programmed for Friday.  Her tail is a real mess.

The op is going to cost £200 – which is a problem for us with so many animals in at present and heating and food bills to pay   Can anyone help Cindy and assist us in paying for her op?   It would be a big help to get this sad little dog back on the road to health and a fresh start in life.  She is pretty and sweet natured and getting her a new home when she is well again is our aim.

She doesn’t like wearing the collar but it’s essential until she’s had her op.

dogs - cindy 7That’s a big bandage – but she’d have it off in seconds without the collar!
