Say no to fur

Our view is that the only place for a rabbitskin fur coat is on the rabbit.   Sadly, the French children’s fashion house, Bonpoint, does not agree.   In its catalogue it shows little girls dressed in rabbit fur coats and wearing hats and carrying purses made from rabbit skins.   There is even a rabbit-skin fur gilet to fit a baby on offer at £121.   It costs £219 to buy a fur coat to fit a six year old.   The rabbits that are slaughtered to provide this so-called luxury fashion wear are factory farmed.   According to a report by Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) they are not a by-product of the meat trade but are bred solely to provide fur coats and accessories.   It’s a dreadful  life for a gentle and intelligent animal.   The rabbits are reared crammed into tiny cages and the way they are killed is appalling.

What sort of parent would want to drape their child in the skin of a dead animal that has had a miserable life and cruel end?    Why, when so many children in the world are dying of starvation, would anyone want to spend this sort of money on clothes for a toddler?   The label is said to be favoured by many celebrities, film stars and a head of state.   What does it teach your children?   Think again please.
