One of the problems of being a very small pony is that when you’re in the stable you can’t see what’s going on. The doors are too high and Rufus was sad because he could hear things happening, ponies coming in and going out and he couldn’t see them. He’d walk endlessly up and down, getting stressed and feeling sad. We were worried about him because he’s already spent many years shut in and not being able to see out. Rufus has an expressive face and you can easily tell when he’s happy. We thought he was getting depressed, he would stand in a corner of the loose box looking miserable.
It’s not a problem for him any more because one of our very kind supporters has had a special door made just for Rufus. It’s normal size but with a ‘window’ in the middle so that he can put his head through and see out. It’s transformed his life – now he knows everything that’s going on and can have a chat with his friends. Very many thanks for your kindness in helping Rufus.
One day he’ll be able to go out with them but first he has to have an operation and because of his age and that he’s so tiny, he’ll be having it done at a veterinary hospital. We need to raise the money first, a stay in hospital is expensive for horses so we’re a way off it at the moment.
Rufus likes to have a chat with Dallas, a 12.2hh pony who we rescued last year.
