Pretty kittens with odd eyes

kittens-snowbaby-1-1All the kittens brought in this year have had stunning good looks, some have been unusual too.  Several have had blue eyes which is unusual.  We used to have a ‘golden oldie’ cat called Pebbles, who lived here for many years, until her late teens.   She was a lovely old girl and a real character, she also was white and fluffy and had one blue eye and one green.  Perhaps there’s a genetic nucleus of ‘odd-eyes’ cats in this area.

The youngster shown above is called Snowbaby Princess and is exceptionally beautiful.  One of her eyes is china blue, the other is pale grey.  She is pure white with just a couple of pale apricot flecks and she has a lovey stripy tail.  What is best about her though is her temperament which is just as good as her looks – she is sweet, affectionate and well behaved.

We took her to the vet for her first vaccination last week and she passed her health check too.  Snowbaby and her brother Stormer (who is a bit more chunky, white and tabby and has grey eyes) have been a bit slower to mature than the other kits, they are still with their mother, who was brought in as a stray.  There is another little brother too but he is still tiny and doesn’t weigh enough to be vaccinated yet.  Nine weeks old is the normal age for vaccination but it depends on weight too.  The kits have another vaccination at 12 weeks and then they are fully vaccinated.

All kittens have blue eyes when they are born, it’s rare for them to still have this shade when older.   Their eyes begin to change colour when they are about a month older and it’s usually permanent by three months.  Snowbaby is ten weeks old now so it’s looking good.   The colour of a cat’s eyes will intensify up to a year old and is a gift from nature.  It’s genetically related to the colour of the coat.

Cats have the most beautiful eyes and the diversity of the colour of them is a big part of their attraction.  We have another young cat, Wispa, with superb emerald green eyes and we’ve had kits with amber eyes in the past but none so far this year.

We have another, slightly older kitten, also brought in to us, his eyes are similar with one of them bright blue.  He also has a lot of white in his coat.  Snowbaby is a bit more fluffy, not completely long haired though.   Isn’t she lovely?
