We had an emergency wildlife rescue today and it was all hands on deck when a very badly injured tawny owl was brought into us. As soon as we saw its leg, we knew it wasn’t good.
Most injuries we are able to cope with but this was shocking even for us. Tawny owls are classed as an exotic with vets and only some specialist surgeries are equipped to deal with them. The nearest one to us is Ark Vets in Killamarsh who specialise in exotic pets. A quick phone call to them and we were on our way. Ark were brilliant and saw the Owl straight away as a priority emergency. Unfortunately, after careful examination of the leg, it was broken in too many places for the vet to treat and to save the poor owl.
Prayer for the Burial of an Owl
This owl died today, O Lord,
Your feathered creature small.
We lay him in the friendly earth
And ask Your blessings on us all.
It was very sad to have to say goodbye to this beautiful creature but it was the kindest thing with no hope of recovery. We are always on standby for Wildlife Rescues so if you have found an injured owl, bird, hedgehog or other small wild animal, you are welcome to give us a call on our Mobile 07872 421878. We’ll do our very best to help.
