She’s not curled up which is a bad sign for a hedgehog during daylight hours. These are nocturnal creatures so usually are fast asleep in daytime. She’s a pale coloured girl and we’ve called her Blondie but she is lethargic and we’re worried about her.
Blondie had been seen during the day by the kind lady who eventually brought her in. She was lying down this morning and too weak to run away so there is something wrong. It might be that she hasn’t been able to find enough food. She could have a tummy upset or have eaten something with toxic chemicals in. Please don’t poison slugs – there are plenty of other ways to kill them. When hedgehogs eat poisoned slugs they too die.
We are hoping this won’t be Blondies fate and she’ll recover. She has drunk some water but not had anything to eat yet. We’re keeping her warm and she’s had a sniff at some mealworms. Hedgehogs aren’t usually active during the day so she might perk up and have some supper tonight.
