Just when he was having a nice snooze those pesky goats come along! Sundance likes to have an early morning nap but the goats are looking for breakfast and don’t care who they disturb. Bridget is asleep too but just out of the picture. Chloe is the oldest pony in this little group and she stands guard. It’s rare to see all the ponies asleep together, there is usually one of them on the alert and looking out for danger. A horse or pony’s first instinct is to flight, a memory of the wild days when there were predators hiding in the bushes and up in trees and ready to pounce on an unsuspecting plump little pony. Although how far Sundance would get on those little legs is hard to imagine.
The’ve gone now so I think I’ll go back to sleep. Ponies look quite strange when they are lying flat out and often people who aren’t used to seeing them like this are afraid that they are ill. We’ve had calls in the past to say ‘your ponies are unconscious’. Thankfully they are just asleep!
If you would like to ‘adopt’ one of the ponies please get in touch – it costs £12 per year and we’ll send you a photo, their story, news and updates. Email your details and we’ll get back to you. We have a lot of rescued horses and ponies and help with their care is very much appreciated. [donate]
