Phantom pregnancies

One of our sanctuary residents is prone to having phantom pregnancies.   She’s never had puppies so this is wishful thinking.    Sunny thinks she is in pup and even produces milk, it’s a disturbing and upsetting time and if this happens to your dog you will find that she needs lots of t.l.c. until the symptoms subside.   Why do some dogs think they are in pup when they are not?   No one knows but thankfully we have discovered how to stop the stress of an imaginary pregnancy.  When the symptoms begin we first of all give Sunny homeopathic remedies, Pulsatilla 15C and Urtica Urens 3C – they do help.   We also crush up some Skullcap and Valerian tablets and put them on her food to  keep her calm and settled. (you can buy all these products from us).

Prevention is better than cure though and we’ve found that Raspberry Leaf tablets are effective in preventing the phantom pregnancy occurring.    They also reduce the symptoms dramatically if your dog has become bloated, begun making nests and crying for babies.  The dosage is 2 tablets per 10kg bodyweight – give this every day as soon as your dog comes in to season and continue for 12 weeks.   It’s worked well with all the dogs here who’ve been treated.  We do give the wanna-be mummy dog a teddy bear as additional comfort.

You can buy Skullcap and Valerian and Raspberry Leaf tablets direct from us – either from our shop ‘In the Dog House’ or online – we’ll be happy to post out to you.    We also stock  homoeopathic remedies.    We been using Dorwest Herbs licensed herbal medicines on our animals for over 30 years – because they don’t have adverse effects and they work!     Please email if you require more information.
