Jack Russells – some folk love them, others think they are little rascals who nip your ankles. Mork is definitely not the latter, he is a real sweetie and all he wants is fuss and more fuss. Mork came in as a stray and wasn’t claimed which we found very surprising as he’s only a youngster and J.R.’s are quite expensive dogs to buy. He is a small chap and black and white, evenly marked and with a slightly ‘broken’ coat – this means that he isn’t smooth and silky but his coat is a bit wavy in places. This grand little dog is a people pleaser and all he wants to do is be with you and have a play and a cuddle and go for a walk. We do our best to match people with pets and if you’ve had a Jack Russell before you’ll know what busy little dogs they are. Mork is true to type and loves to chase balls and fetch sticks and at only approx. one year old he is full of life. Mork is well behaved though and likes to have a snooze in his basket, I’m sure it would be the sofa if he had the chance. This is a breed that likes comfort, a plastic dog bed and a thin cover just won’t do. These dogs like duvets and cushions and preferably their own armchair. They don’t like draughts so always make sure that the dog bed is in a cosy spot. Jack Russell’s don’t eat a lot, they are usually dainty eaters and likes pouches and foils and small bite mixer. Even better is a bit of what you are having and this is fine so long as it’s meat or fish with a bit of added cereal and cooked veg. Mork likes proper meat better than dog food and with a slice of toasted wholegrain bread he’s be in dogs dinner heaven. Jack Russells offer many advantages to their companion carers, they don’t take up much room and Mork is fine in the car. They are cheap to feed, don’t need a lot of grooming and are generally healthy and long lived dogs. They are one of the most obviously affectionate breeds and do like to be with you as much as possible. I love the way they scamper around, always following a scent and looking for something interesting – a squirrel, a cat, a left over sandwich – at the same time with one eye on their special person. These aren’t the laid back Labradors of the dog world, but the fusspots who always want to know what’s new, what’s happening and where are you are going? I’m coming too. Mork has been neutered and vaccinated. He is a favourite with our Rambling Rovers and everyone at the sanctuary but what he really needs is a permanent home with someone who has the time to give him lots of love, attention and country walks – he’ll be your faithful friend forever.
