Pedigree dogs get dumped

You might think that it’s mostly cross breed dogs who are brought in to the sanctuary as strays. It’s a surprising fact that there are just as many pedigree dogs abandoned. At the present time we have several Rottweilers, including a beautiful puppy, also a SharPei, a spaniel, a Yorkie, a German Shepherd female puppy as well as the pure bred staffis who almost routinely arrive here. So why are people dumping their dogs even when they have paid several hundred pounds for them?

Is it because they’ve bought the wrong breed? Or that looking after a puppy isn’t quite what they expected? One of the reasons why people get rid of their puppy is because it bites! This is play biting and something that all pups do, it’s part of growing up. A lot of people know so little about dogs and their behaviour that they are convinced that the dog is vicious. We’re told this time and time again.

If you’d like any information on which breed of dog to choose or any advice on behavioural problems, please get in touch, we’re here to help.

With so many dogs coming in we urgently need food – any help would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.[donate]
