Ozzie makes progress

Ozzie loves his aviary and likes to perch on the highest branch.  He is nearly fully feathered now, only a few fluffy feathers left.   Chicks are his favourite meal, we buy them ready frozen and defrost several every day for him.   He has a good breakfast and then we top him up with chicks in the evening.  The idea is to try to mimic his natural feeding pattern.  At last he’s eating whole chicks on his own, no more cutting them into little pieces and hand feeding him!   He is a proper owl now and swoops on to the chick and picks it up in his talons, which are very powerful, and takes it off to a branch to sit and eat it.

It won’t be long before we release him – a happy and sad day to come.
