Yesterday evening we were closed and the gates were fastened for the night. There was no way we could know that some person had left a cat outside. He would have been there all night if our kind neighbour (Steve from J.J.’s cattery) hadn’t noticed the cat basket and gone to investigate. The poor cat had already been shut in there for several hours though. He must have been feeling very miserable – he’s a big cat and it’s a small basket.
We fetched him in even though we are full to capacity. There was a note in the basket which said that the owner had to go away and although he’s contacted all the big animal sanctuaries no one will take the cat in. He’s a fine looking cat in middle years. His neck has a contusion all the way round where he’s been wearing a collar much too tight and it’s made the fur fall off and caused a soreness. What must it be like to have a tight collar round your neck, cutting into your skin and not be able to get it off? We see too many cats with this injury, the suffering caused by collars is terrible. Please don’t put a collar on your cat. They are completely unnecessary, microchipping is better and more effective.
We hope that other people won’t ever dump their cat outside a shelter. No matter what the reason, this is a cruel and inconsiderate thing to do. Cats can only be taken in if there is room for them. Contact first is essential.
If anyone could foster Tupac please get in touch. We have been inundated with homeless cats and kittens recently. We have some lovely adult cats for adoption. Having more cat pens would be a blessing – we have the space but the pens need refurbishing. Even a small donaation would be a great help – we have a standing order form available to download or we can post one out to you. Many thanks.
