New kittens

This is Twiggy, a little girl kitten who was born five weeks ago.   She has two brothers but they were too busy exploring and wouldn’t pose for the camera.    Twiggy is all tabby, just like one of her brothers, the other kit is tabby and white.    All three are very pretty with nice round faces and little ears, their markings are beautiful.   Already the kits are litter trained and they are just starting to eat.   As mum has only had three, she seems to have plenty of milk for them, when the litters are bigger, the kits are hungry and begin eating earlier.    This litter is the next to be available for re-homing but they won’t go until they have had their first vaccination and that all important health check.  They need to be at least nine weeks and becoming more emotionally independent.   Kittens can survive away from mum from six weeks onwards but it is not to be recommended.   Up to twelve weeks their immune system is not fully developed and they need special care, a very clean environment and to be away from other cats.   Our last litter had their jabs and received the all clear from the vet yesterday, so they will be packing their little bags and going to their new homes this weekend.

Rearing the stray and abandoned cats and kittens is a huge financial strain.    We try always to take them in – often they appear here, in boxes left at the gate.   They all need to be health checked and vaccinated, their mums need to be vaccinated too and then spayed.   You can buy a bag of cat food for them online – In the Dog House – pay by paypal and we’ll give it to them straight away.   Pouches, cans and anything that’s going is very welcome, please bring to Reception – also we’re always desperate for donations for vet bills.  We have a little poorly kitten on a drip at the vets right now.   We do not have the fund raising budgets of the big animal sanctuaries who often spend millions of pounds on advertising.   A big thank for all your kindness to all the people who already help us.
