One of the first arrivals at our Christmas Fair yesterday was this little hoglet. She’d been found wandering about in the cold the night before and was taken in by these kind folk who kept her warm and fed her before bringing her in to us. Every hedgehog saved helps the survival of the species, their numbers are declining rapidly due to the loss of their habitat and toxic chemicals used in farming. Some garden pesticides kill them too – if slugs eat them and the hedgehogs eat the slugs – then that’s another little life lost. We need hedgehogs, they are part of the wildlife chain that is ultimately so necessary to the survival of many other species and maybe ours.
This hoglet is snuggled up nice and warm on a heated pad and is doing well. Thanks folks.
Thanks to everyone who came and supported us and especially to our wonderful team of helpers – Julie who served refreshments all day, Lorna who organised the tombola and Molly who sold tickets. Brilliant!
