We’ve had a busy holiday period with dogs, cats, birds and hedgehogs brought in. The latter are mostly hoglets, too young to survive the winter without food reserves. They’re tucked up warm in hay nests and are safe now, all are eating well. They probably won’t hibernate but we’ll keep them going till Spring when they’ll be released as soon as they are up to weight.
Kittens are still being abandoned, which is cruel as they have no way of surviving unless they are found and brought in to us. We’ll have a lot of visits to the vet with them this week. Pigeons come in all year round, we released two of our last batch yesterday, one flew away, the other one went in to the kitchen where he lives (with the cats!) on a high ledge. He likes it here with us and doesn’t want to go.
We have a beautiful blackbird who was found injured and brought to us. He is a work of art and thankfully, he’s pulling round now. It’s only when you see them close up that you can fully appreciate how handsome they are with how fine their colouring.
A sweet little Jack Russell came in on Christmas Eve – he’s a bit timid at present and was cringing at first but is coming round now. We’ll be putting him up for adoption when he’s had a health check and been vaccinated.
