hedgehogs - miffy

The hedgehog we had brought in last week has recovered and been released.  He had plenty of fat on him to see him through the winter so we are letting him do his own thing.   Another one came in yesterday, a youngster who is a bit thin.   Apparently he has been stuck somewhere in a garden so hasn’t been able to feed himself.   He seems alright and we’re hoping it will just be a lack of food is making him wobbly.  No injuries that I can see but a large tick fell off him as we moved him to his new quarters.   It’s always best to catch the ticks and make sure they are destroyed otherwise they’ll just jump back on someone and it might by your dog – or you!

How to destroy a tick?   It takes some doing, it’s hard to crush them  and throwing them away just makes them find a new host.   We don’t really like killing any creature but ticks cause such illness and misery that it has to be done.  They don’t drown either.   Putting them on the fire is the only sure way to get rid of them.  Unless anyone has any other solution?
