Monday morning updates

kittens - calico girls - 1

It’s been a busy week as usual and here are your Monday morning updates.  We’ve had young hedgehogs brought in almost every day and they are all doing well.  Once we rehydrate them and feed them and medicate if needed they soon pick up.  Even the little girl who was injured and full of maggots has made a good recovery.  We love saving hedgehogs!   We won’t release any of them until they’ve grown up and are a good weight.  We want to be sure they can find food and survive.

Thank you to everyone who has given one of our kittens a good home, lovely happy endings for these little waifs and strays.   We’ve had a lot of kittens brought in this year and born here to pregnant lady stray cats who’ve been brought in.   Once they’re well over their kittening and have regained their health we have them spayed and then it’s adoption time – we have some lovely young adult cats so watch out for them in the Pet Adoption section.

We had another three  feral kittens brought in last week – only four weeks old and as hissy, spitty, scratchy as they come!  They can’t be vac chanted until they are nine weeks at least and up to weight, so we’ve plenty of time to tame and transform them.  They were found under a garden shed, their mother had abandoned them – or been chased off by a predator perhaps.

The Snowshoe cats are doing well and have settled down just fine.  We are looking for a good home for them. they are used to being indoor cats but like to be out in their run as well so they would get used to going out for a while, if it was safe for them – they are not street-wise.

Most of the birds have survived, it’s touch and go with the really tiny ones.  We release them as soon as they are fully feathered and can fly.  We still have several crows, they are the ‘tough-guys’ of the bird world and eat well.  It’s caw-caw-caw until you feed them, they are always hungry.   Our ‘tame’ crow Ricky is still around and flies over and calls out to us.  He roosts in the tree at the top of the drive and sometimes flies down for a face to face by the hedgehog pens.  We caught him trying to undo the door of an aviary to let one of the injured young crows out the other week.  He’s good at opening doors and used to let us in his pen or shut us out when he was still a resident.

Little Suzi, the dog who came in when her owner passed away, is adorable.  She is a real sweetie and polite and well behaved with a very affectionate personality.  She’s clean, walks nicely on the lead and is a sedate little dog. She  likes to sit on your knee and has been good in every way.  We’re taking her for a health check and to be vaccinated and then she’ll be offered for adoption.   If you can give her a loving home please get in touch.

Many thanks for food and all good things brought in this week – it’s very much appreciated and helps us to keep going.
