Manx Shearwater needs your help at the animal sanctuary

Manx Shearwater rescue

Do you know what a Manx Shearwater is? We weren’t 100% sure until we got in touch with the Manx Shearwater patrol in Pembrokeshire. It’s the first recorded case of one being found this far north in the UK. How did it arrive at Doncaster is a mystery. We can only assume it became lost when flying and ended up grounded on the A19 road. Luckily a quick thinking Wildlife Angel scooped up the Manx late at night and rang the Pet Samaritans to arrange to transport him down to our Wildlife hospital.

Manx Shearwaters are like swifts. Once on the ground they cannot take flight. The good news is there seems to be no injuries and to have a fighting chance, the manx needs transporting to the coast. Time is of the essence for its best chance of survival, so it can make its migration journey for the winter.

WE URGENTLY NEED YOUR HELP

We urgently need your help to transport our manx friend to a south west facing coastline – somewhere on the Welsh coastline would be ideal for the migration to Argentina. We can provide all the transportation gear but we need some wheels and a driver. If anyone is heading down that direction and fancies an adventure with a Manx for company, please get in touch on 07872 421878 or 07368 996127.

Alternatively if anyone could transport to our friends at Idlewild Sanctuary in Conwy. They have experience with Manx Shearwaters and can help with the release.
