Apologies for not updating everyone sooner about Bentley the Manx Shearwater that came into the animal sanctuary on the 14th September after being found near the Bentley A road in Doncaster. It’s been rather hectic lately as our kitchen refurbishment takes place.
Well we have some good news. If you didn’t already know, Manx Shearwaters are unable to take off after becoming grounded and this is when they need a bit of help. Sanctuary Wildlife Angels Cat and Heath heard about his plight and volunteered to take him to Welsh coast to give him his best chance at flying to his winter destination in Argentina. After putting on a good amount of weight at our wildlife hospital while under the care of head wildlife coordinator, Kate, Bentley was given the green light for take off. Cat and Heath collected Bentley on the 19th September. The journey was expected to take several hours, so it was an early start to load him up and drive to the coast.
The journey went smoothly with Bentley being a model passenger on the trip down. Cat and Heath found a suitable spot near the coastline and it was fingers crossed for a successful take off.
Up, up and ……..
away!
What a fabulous end to an amazing story. A huge thank you to our Wildlife Angels Cat and Heath. They support our wildlife hospital by regularly offering safe release sites on their farm. If you would like to get involved with success stories like this, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you.
