My faithful friend, when giving up is hard to do

dogs - zeus

This lovely labrador was brought in to us this week because his owner couldn’t keep him any more.  We keep hearing from the media that life is getting better and easier but that isn’t the case for everyone.  A sudden upheaval, acommodation difficulties and there was no room for this much loved dog.  His owner asked us to take him in and find him a new home.   This wouldn’t have been difficult because Zante is a lovely dog, well behaved and in good condition.

He’s settling down well and we could see why anyone would be very fond of him.  We would have no hesitation in offering him for adoption – personality assessment, health check, photos – but then a phone call.   His owner was devastated that he’d had to give him up.  There was such emotion in his voice.  He was missing him.   Could we keep Zante until he turned his life around and sorted things out?   We knew how we’d feel in similar circumstances.  It might be a couple of months but there was a new home waiting and with a big garden too, just right for the dog.

Alright then, we’ve made a decision –  Zante will stay with us and we will re-home him – back to his owner though, a dog lover who, in spite of adversity, couldn’t bear to give up his much loved canine friend.
