Their mum was brought in already heavily pregnant, she’d been wandering around back gardens looking for someone to feed and shelter her. She’s a young cat and friendly but very unsettled. Tilly gave birth to these three little ones last week, they are a bit smaller than usual probably because mom didn’t have enough to eat and was stressed by being abandoned. We were told that her people had moved away. Strange how people often leave the cat when they move. They are beautiful kittens though and she is feeding them so they will come on I am sure. It’s fortunate there are not more of them because I doubt if this runaround lady cat would be able to care for them. She is a quick little cat and not the most caring of mothers. As soon as they’ve nursed she wants to leave them. Some of our other mommy cats are devoted and fiercely protective of their babies. I doubt this one would have stayed with her newborns if she hadn’t been safe and confined in a maternity room. When cats are stressed themselves, the trials of motherhood are not foremost in their mind!
As soon as Tilly has reared her babies we’ll have her spayed so she will not have to worry about anything maternal again. We’re giving her lots of nourishing food and keeping her very quiet – no visitors till she settles a bit more. The kittens are not evenly sized, the calico is the biggest, then there is a medium sized ginger tabby with a touch of white, the all ginger tabby is the tiniest of them all – a real little scrap of a kitten. I love those little pink paws!
