Kittens have their eyes open

Jasmine’s kittens are two weeks old and now have their eyes open.   They are moving and wriggling and squirming about as well.   Yesterday she moved them from her original nest to a new one she’s made.  When one of them tried to go back she smartly picked him up in her mouth and put him back with the others.   Strange how cats, with all their sharp teeth, can hold kittens so gently.

The kits keep close together and like the feel of their brothers and sisters next to them.   Even so young there is a big difference in shape, size and personality.   There’s one tiny baby (left of the picture) – a little girl who is half the size of the others, who are bigger and fatter.   She will have latched on to a teat with less milk.  Once they have found ‘their own’ teat they will usually stay with it until they are reared.  The kits with a plentiful suppy of milk do better.   The rest of the kits are like little butterballs!

The kitten on the right has a lovely face with a sweet expression.   She (I think) has round eyes and wide set ears and an old fashioned chocolate box look.   One of the tabbies (a boy) is more lively than the rest and sets off to explore when I get them out.   He’s an adventurous little chap.   Another of the little girl kits is always sleepy and curls up no matter what’s going on.

Three tortieshell girls and two boys – I think.  It is hard to tell when they are so small and wriggling around and mum is anxious to get them all back with her.   Jasmine is a very good mommy.

Would you like to sponsor one of the kittens and help us to care for him or her?   A small donation will do it – please let us know which one and we’ll send you a special picture.  [donate]
