Our first born kittens are nearly six weeks old now and venturing away from mum more and more. You can see her smiling in the background. She doesn’t seem to mind now so long as she knows they are within meowing distance. The little boy on the left is a lovely silvery tabby and has already been reserved. The kitten on the right is definitely a little girl – she’s a tortie and they are always female. Both the kittens are already litter trained and eating well, still suckling from mummy whenever they can though!
There are five kittens in this litter – this little chap has a fine, smooth tabby coat with pale creamy colouring on his face and legs, he is very quiet and loving and already reserved – he is going to be called Dino. It suits him.
Where are the other two kittens? In hiding I guess, or cuddled up asleep in the nest. There is a big slightly fluffy one, super looking, smudgy colouring and another tortie who was the littlest of the litter. I’ll try to get their photo next time.
This wasn’t an even litter, three were biggies and the other two were smaller, one especially so. We don’t have the kittens vaccinated until after 9 weeks and when they’ve had their health check they are ready to pack their little bags and go to their new homes. If a kitten is a real tiny we’ll keep her a while longer though. We don’t like them all to go at once because it’s stressful for mum too. Eventually she’ll not bother about them and that’s when they can all leave. Although, sometimes if a cat has an especial attachment to one of her kits we’ll let that one stay with her for always.
Mischa and Myrtle…… still love each other after more than ten years.
Mischa following me through the long wet grass yesterday when I went to feed the ponies.
Myrtle wasn’t going to be left behind although she didn’t like getting her paws wet!
If you’d like to adopt one of the kittens please get in touch. We have several more litters – all younger and all ginger or ginger and white.
