These two little orphan kittens have become ‘forever friends’ – they love each other. Melissa is on the right and Moonpenny is the white one on the left. Both have similar temperaments, they are very loving and a bit shy until they get to know you. Cats are a species that seem to be particularly choosy about their friends – when they like another cat it does seem to be a lifetime choice. Cats who are friends and loving together will stay the same for the rest of their lives.
The same goes when they take a dislike to another one – Myrtle and Peaches – both long term sanctuary residents, have always disliked each other intensely and we have no idea why.
This is Peaches, who is an old lady cat now, but still as opinionated as ever. She doesn’t like Myrtle at all and never has done. Mostly they avoid each other but in their younger years fur would fly if they came into contact.
Myrtle, who has also been here for many years, is the most even tempered and loving cat you could ever meet. She gets along with everyone, people and cats – except for Peaches – then it’s hiss, spit and I’ll box your ears if you come near me! Is it some long held memory of a slight, a scuffle, a dispute over food or territory? Do cats hold a grudge? These two senior lady cats certainly do.
Many of our elderly residents have been with us for many years – we never put a healthy cat to sleep no matter how old. Can you help us care for these ‘golden oldies’? We have a standing order form – please get in touch and we’ll send one out to you. If you’d like to sponsor a cat for only £2.00 per month it will make a big difference and go towards their care. We’ll send photos and updates from ‘your’ cat with pleasure. [donate]
