Squirel Nutkin was brought into us a couple of days ago, he’d been knocked down by a car and looked to be concussed. We didn’t think he would survive as he was flat out and not moving. We put him in a dark box and kept him quiet, wild anmals are so stressed by their contact with humans that sometimes leaving them to recover is the best thing.
Nutkin was still breathing next morning and was able to sit up, he wouldn’t eat though or move much. Today he has moved around and ate a dish of nuts and mealworms so that is a hopeful sign. He seems to be recovering slowly although not at the running around stage as yet. Shock is as big a killer as injury when a wild creature has to be caught but at least this little fella is eating. Some people think that squirrels are pests but we love these quick and playful little creatures, they are usually survivors, lets hope this one will be.
