Will you help us feed the wildlife

birds - perjo 20With more injured birds and other wildlife coming in every day we are under pressure to afford to feed them.  You might think there would be little cost involved but the reality is that, because their food has to be bought in and is out of the ordinary, it is more expensive.  Owls are good eaters when they get going.   Frail hedgehogs have special milk food and vitamins and again this is expensive.   We constantly need to update our facilities to accommodate these waifs and strays.  Donations to help with their care would be much appreciated.  It’s also kitten time of year and we are struggling with vaccination costs which is taking up a lot of our resources.   A standing order donation is a great way to help us – even a small amount makes a big difference.  There’s a form you can dowload on the website, you just fill it in and take to your bank.   If you can’t print the form out please let us know and we’ll pop one in the post.

Perjo (shown above) is doing really well.  He is more confident now and is a cheeky little chappie, clicking to us when he wants to be fed and taking interest in everything we do.  He still likes his meat cut up very small though.    Our little hedgehog, brought in yesterday close to death, is improving and is curling up and sleeping properly now.  He was like a limp rag at first.   He has a bottle of special orphan hedgehog milk every few hours and he takes it well.  Ordinary cows milk would be disastrous for a hedgehog, although goats milk is acceptable in an emergency.

Our injured owl (we’ve called him Woody) is improving, but only slightly.   He is still eating, again we’re hand feeding him.  We’ve also managed to give him some medication and hope that it will help.  He’s not perching today though, which means that he is feeling weak but he is opening his eyes more and has started clicking to us – this is a good sign.  He has a good spirit and is trying to get better.  Hang on Woody!
