Our little owlets are still doing well. They have an amazing range of expressions and we have good communication with them. It’s true that most of it is to do with food – another piece of meat please – but they also have a range of like and dislike faces. They squabble a bit over the cut up chicks – when they both want the same piece at the same time. When their tummies are full and they are ready for a nap they don’t want to be disturbed. If they want cleaning it has to wait or they hiss at us. Barn owlets have a wide range of vocal sounds. They hiss when they are cross and click when they want to get our attention. The larger of the two is more likely to do this, the smaller is the quiet one.
Are they boy and girl? We like to think so but we won’t know for sure till they are fully grown but even then it’s difficult to tell. And what are they called? We’ve decided on Hansel and Gretel – it seems to suit them.
