Don’t let pets drink dirty water

Sometimes cats and dogs prefer to drink from puddles or containers in the garden.   This is fine for most of the year, when the weather is cool the water might look cloudy but it shouldn’t be toxic.   When the hot sun shines, everything changes and within hours a green slime can develop.   If your cat or dog or rabbit, drinks slimy water they may become very ill.   You’ll need to take them to the vet.   Green slime on water or dishes is dangerous and can even kill.   Keep containers clean and in the shade and remove them immediately if you see any green tinge on the side.   The colouring is caused by algae which multiply rapidly.  Toxic stuff.   Even letting your dog splash around in a pond covered in green slime can make him very ill.    Seek advice from your vet if this happens.   A check up is better than a sick pet.
