Millie the Yorkshire Terrier came in to the sanctuary because her owner had, sadly, passed away. Millie is the sweetest little dog imaginable but with just one problem – her teeth. If only she’d had regular doggy dentist check ups!Although Millie ate well, it was obvious that her teeth were in bad shape. If they are left to deteriorate further they can become infected and poison the dog’s system. We took Millie to see the vet and it was decided that she’d have to be admitted for some dentistry work. We had to starve Millie from the night before and that didn’t go down too well. But Kirsty, who is one of our volunteers (shown above) took Millie home with her and a night on a duvet was a consolation for missing supper!
Millie was given an anaesthetic and also put on a drip as a precaution, as she is a small dog and in her middle years. The teeth were worse than the vet had thought and poor Millie had all removed but two – they almost fell out – was the verdict. Kirsty took Millie home and nursed her back to health with lots of t.l.c. and Millie has now been adopted by Kirsty so the duvet …. and the sofa ….. and the best spot by the t.v. and the radiator and loads of pampering ….. are guaranteed.
How does this little dog eat without her teeth? Soft food of course, but she still manages well and enjoys her meals. Thanks Kirsty for giving Miss Millie such a loving home.
