Dog popularity

Dogs are catching up in the pet popularity stakes

Cats have been in the lead since 1994, which was the first year they managed to knock the dogs off the top spot.    They’ve been at a peak of 9.6 million but the number of our feline friends has declined recently down to 8.6million.

Dogs at 8.3 million are catching up fast.    These figures have been supplied by the Pet Food Manufacturers Association.   So does this make cats and dogs, the U.K.s most popular pets?    No, it’s the 140 million pet fish who are easily in the lead.
