Delboy was wandering about the streets late at night in a suburb of Chesterfield. He was emaciated and, even worse, had a dreadful injury to one of his front legs. There were people still around and he had to decide which way to go to for help. Delboy made the right choice – he followed an off-duty policeman all the way to his home. Clever dog. The kind hearted officer took him in, gave him food and first aid and then brought him in to us.
Delboy was one of the thinnest dogs ever but his leg was the most immediate problem. The wound is on the inside of his front leg, it’s large and deep, right down to the bone and it’s very painful. This injury didn’t happen yesterday, it was neglected and infected. The vet put him on antibiotics and, short of skin grafts, it was up to us and lots of care and t.l.c.
Thankfully, Delboy, (who is a charming and enterprising character!) is making a good recovery, he is a model patient although he is in a lot of pain. We dress the wound twice daily and apart from a little ‘mmm, mmm’ mmm’ he doesn’t complain. Delboy is a lovely character, well behaved, good tempered and a real pal. He is recovering well although it is still going to be a long haul.
If anyone can help us with Delboy’s vet bills it would be very much appreciated. [donate]
