Chester has a hairdo

That’s better!   Chester has had his knots combed out and is back to his handsome self.   He has a magnificent mane which reaches nearly to his knees and he likes it to be brushed.   Chester has been with us for many years, we rescued him from a meat market.   He was in a pen and had a shoulder injury when we first saw him.   We don’t know whether he was sent in because of the injury or it had happened at the market.   We gave him pain relief to get him home as he could hardly walk but with rest and lots of t.l.c. he made a good recovery.   Chester is an old gent now although he doesn’t act like it sometimes.    Like most old ponies he has lost most of his teeth so has to have soft food.   Without this he would starve as biting grass is the natural way of things.    He also had supplements for his joints as the original injury, although long since healed, means that he sometimes stiffens up.    He’s a great character and for a stallion, he is very well behaved.   The biggest problem is keeping him away from the other, bigger horses.   He hates any horse who is male, including geldings and will square up to them if he has the chance – even if they are sixteen hands.   He’s the sanctuary alpha male and that’s it!
