Cats mark their territory

Has Grondhal fallen in love with one of our security cameras?   Or, more likely, is she marking her territory?   Cats do like to rub up against the strangest objects but it’s a desire to make their prescence felt – ‘hey guys, this is my patch!’

Cats are territorial creatures and like other felines to be aware who lives where.   Both Grondhal and her sister Bing are very friendly with people but quite aloof with the rest of the cat club here.   They are not fighters though and the most they’ll go to is complete indifference.

‘There, I think I’ve got it out of my system now.   I’ll chase a leaf instead.’   These two calico girls are around ten years old now and have spent all their life past kittenhood, here with us.   They were brought in as two very frail six week old kits and had lots of tlc to get them to survive.   Once they grew up they became fierce wild hunters and like nothing more than to go down the fields and catch their supper.   It is ingrained instinct with them, they are predators and if the civilised world came to an end, Bing and Grondhal would be able to feed themselves and would be fine without us.

They are not fine weather cats, the cold doesn’t bother them at all.   This is Bing out in the snow last year.    These two sisters are devoted to each other and hang around together.   They are dominant cats here without any serious attempt at asserting their authority.    All the other cats defer to them and step out of their way to let them pass.

O.K.  you can tickly my tummy if you like!   They are both such softies with people that it’s hard to imagine them  stalking their prey down the fields and going wild wooding on a moonlit night.   An inbred instinct maybe?

If you’d like to ‘adopt’ Bing and Grondhal please get in touch.   £10 per year will do it and help us to care for them.   We’ll send you an adoption certificate, pictures, their story (why are they called Bing and Grondhal?) and regular updates.   You might even see them when you come to visit (if you bring a pouch they’ll love you forever) – these two lovely cats are often on duty as ‘greeters’ – you’ll get a cat hello and a fuss as soon as they see you.  Adoption donation by paypal or cheque made payable to Pet Samaritans please.
