Cassie and her one kitten are doing fine. This young tortie mum has gone from ‘shock/horror’ to ‘fussy/mummy’ in a matter of days. She is so excited about this kitten and can hardly keep still when she’s showing him off. Cassie is a very agile, quick little cat, not much more than a kitten herself, and she wriggles and gets up and down and is so pleased with her baby. She is ready to nurse him whenever he wants – he’s getting all the milk and growing fast.
Already he can move around and his eyes are open. It would have been nicer for him if he’d had some brothers and sisters to cuddle up to and play with though. I think this is why he meows so much when she leaves him for food. She soon dashes back when she hears him though. Persuading her to leave him even for a minute takes some doing sometimes.
Her inexperience does show – where is the kitten? He gets underneath her and on top of her and she is on the move trying to get in the right place for him to nurse. Cassie is having a saucer of goat’s milk yoghurt every day which she loves, licking it up even before she has her meat. She also has a dish of Royal Canin Baby Cat biscuits down as they are very palatable and extra nourishing – pregnant and lactating cats need the same extra rich food as their kittens.
He’s his mommy’s blue-eyed boy! Very difficult to take his pic – all he wants to do is snuggle up to his mom. He is jet black all over even his tiny paws. Maybe that’s his name – Jet?
