Kittens are still considered to be ‘babies’ until they are a year old and then they are grown up and can be treated as adults. From the age of 4 to 12months the kitten’s growth rate slows down and her natural defence system and digestion remain fragile. The milk teeth of the tiny tots come through between two and eight weeks, their final set of teeth appear between 4 and 12 months. We leave the baby cat biscuits behind and go on to kitten complete food after four months. Make sure whatever you feed is high quality and give the same attention to hygiene – clean dishes every day. Kitten pouches and kitten milk can be offered and also fresh food. Chopped up cooked chicken, lightly poached mince and gravy, a bit of fish so long as it’s from a sustainable source. Cats like variety, it’s what they would get for themselves in a natural life and recent research has shown that the more the cat’s diet mirrors natural food the better. We always leave cat biscuits down for anytime snacks and offer fresh food or pouches several times a day.
