Kittens need to be cuddled – keeping them cosy and warm makes all the difference to their growth and development. We urgently need blankets and sheets for bedding. If you have any you can spare, please bring them in. Duvets are fine if cut up into cat basket sized squares. Woollen blankets and bedspreads also make fine covers for the cats. If kittens are still with their mothers they snuggle up against her fur and are cosy and warm. Most of the kits we have in at present have been abandoned or are orphans. Even though the weather is quite warm, they need to be snug and feel something soft around them.
We’ve noticed that cats seem to have had bigger litters this year, with some mum’s giving birth to six and even seven little ones. These tiny kittens don’t always make it though. It’s survival of the fittest and the strongest grow on with the tinies often fading. Around four kittens is best for a new mum to rear and they’ll grow up big and strong then.
Some of the kits have now had their second vaccination and are ready for new homes. If you’re looking for a new cat please come along and meet them. We still have some tiny tearaways who need fuss and cuddles and to be socialized. The more human contact the better so if you can help, we’d love to see you. Our visitor centre is open 11.0am to 4.0pm including weekends.
