Because he’s never been chipped it was catch-up time for Barney yesterday. The Dog Wardens came round to micro-chip him and get him registered. He’s only a little dog and it’s a big needle so we were apprehensive. Nobody wants to see a dog get hurt but Barney was a brave boy and didn’t make a fuss.
We bribed him with chicken and it was all over in a few seconds. Barney complies with the law now, you have 21 days to get a dog who has been handed in or is a stray, microchipped.
There are exemptions available for frail or sick dogs and a certificate from your vet stating that this is the case is necessary. When we give a treat to mask something unpleasant that’s about to happen, we always make sure it’s something really tasty – a slice of chicken or a chunk of lamb – dry biscuits just won’t do!
