There are four of them so bottle feeding these orphan hedgehogs is a real labour of love. They have milk every two hours and like human babies they fall asleep and we have to encourage them to stay awake and finish their feed. We sterilize their bottles and all the equipment after each feed, the hoglet’s immune system may not be good so we have to be extra careful.
Their mother had died already when they were brought in. Council workmen found them under a shed they were moving. It is difficult to rear hoglets as tiny as this, they don’t even have their eyes open, but we’re giving it our best efforts and praying that these little ones survive.
