Baby hedgehog all alone

hedgehogs - baby Aug

This baby hedgehog was found wandering about in the road and brought in for us to rear – thanks to the kind folk who took the time to rescue him.   There is no way this little fella would be able to survive on his own until he is a bigger.

He was cold when he first came in but soon found a spot in the sunshine and warmed up.   We don’t know what happened to his family but it wouldn’t be natural for him to be separated from them at this age.  A careful search had been done by the people who found him but no trace of mum could be seen.

It wouldn’t be normal for him to be walking round during the day, hedgehogs are mainly nocturnal creatures.  Getting him to eat is the first challenge, sometimes hedgehogs have eaten toxic substances – please garden organically and don’t put down slug pellets, they are deadly for many small creatures.
