2015 The Year of the Goat

Wishing you Happiness for the Chinese New Year which starts today – it’s the Year of the Goat.  Here’s hoping it will bring more kindness and compassion to these often cruelly treated animals.  It’s still legal to ritually slaughter them in the U.K. and this is how they are killed throughout much of the world.  Goats are gentle creatures, they are vegetarians, have strong family ties and, when reared by humans, they are friendly and essential for survival for many people.  Their milk is nutritious and good to drink.   Goats can live for anything from ten to 15 years, we’ve had them go on to eighteen years.  It depends on what sort of life they’ve led, a goat who is kidded every year will be ‘burnt-out’ by seven or eight.

Animals have such difficult and dangerous lives, their main predator is man, we kill them and eat them and when we’re not doing that we destroy their habitat.   So here’s wishing enlightenment to humans and good luck, health and happiness to all living creatures, especially goats.
