What a difference a day’s careful hand feeding makes! Our barn owl babies are picking up, they look stronger and are trying to stand up. The main thing is that they are hungry and taking food. When they came in they were weak and looked very miserable. Getting them to open their beaks so we could put meat in was Patience in getting them to feed did the trick and they are much better now. They can eat a chick (cut up small) at one meal now.
Already the larger owlet ‘clicks’ to us – and we ‘click’ back to him. It’s wonderful to be able to communicate with another species. What’s he saying to us? More chicks please!
